Sen. Paul to Newsmax: I Have Concerns Over Haley's Potential Democrat Partnership

By    |   Wednesday, 17 January 2024 08:44 PM EST

In an interview with Newsmax's "Rob Schmitt Tonight" on Wednesday, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said he would not support former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. Paul said she would align with Democrats.

"I fear the candidacy of Nikki Haley, and I think it would be she would be someone who comes in and immediately works with the Democrats to allow their agenda to go through. And I think that would be bad for America. So, I'm 'Never Nikki,'" declared Paul.

Paul highlighted ideological differences, stating, "Nikki Haley is from the wing of the party that's the opposite of everything I believe in. This is sort of the McConnell-McCain, McConnell-Dick Cheney wing that says deficits don't matter and that the border of Ukraine is more important than the southern border of the United States."

Paul criticized this faction for being willing to send money overseas and engage in foreign wars while neglecting issues like immigration. He emphasized his concerns about their lack of action on the southern border, stating, "They're not really willing to do anything about the millions of people coming across the border."

In support of Paul's opposition to Haley for president, a website, NeverNikki.net, has been set up.

Meanwhile, the Republican presidential hopeful has her focus on New Hampshire after placing third in the Iowa caucuses. Pledging that her campaign will be "even stronger in New Hampshire," Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, is competing in the state's upcoming Republican presidential primary on Jan. 23, reported CBS News.

According to a CBS News poll from December, Haley has emerged as the leading alternative to former President Donald Trump in New Hampshire, securing 29% of likely GOP primary voters compared to Trump's 44%. Despite her popularity, Trump maintains a significant lead over other Republican candidates and triumphed in the Iowa caucuses with an impressive 51% of the vote, securing 20 delegates.

Haley's third-place finish in Iowa positioned her closely behind Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
