Zogby Warns: Pollsters Display 'Carelessness' in Methods

By    |   Thursday, 13 October 2016 06:38 PM EDT

It is hard to take polls seriously when the polling methods are flawed, pollster John Zogby told Newsmax TV on Thursday.

Zogby said media companies and other organizations that conduct polls for the presidential race need to tighten up the way they do things — and Americans need to keep that in mind – the pollster advised during an appearance on Thursday's "Steve Malzberg Show."

How people are supposed to take polls seriously?

"You're not, and that's a problem," Zogby said.

"First of all, in the CNN instance, with the snap polls and the quick samples and kind of a carelessness in terms of ensuring proper representation," Zogby added to Malzberg.

"But that's also a problem with an organization that really had a conflict of interest – I'm going to be very honest with you about it – and that's NBC. The Trump tape was on NBC property; there was an NBC employee; that was an NBC soap opera. They should not have done their own poll. They should've at least farmed it out to somebody else to do."

Zogby was referring to the leaked tape of sexually aggressive comments Republican Donald Trump made in 2005 that was made public last Friday. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll that came out Monday showed Democrat Hillary Clinton had a 9-point lead in the presidential race.

Zogby, the author of "We Are Many, We Are One," added he adjusts his samples for party identification when he conducts a poll.
