Peter Navarro to Newsmax: I Will Appeal Conviction

By    |   Monday, 11 September 2023 10:35 PM EDT

Peter Navarro, a onetime trade adviser to former President Donald Trump, emphasized Monday that he would appeal his conviction on two counts of contempt of Congress.

Navarro argued on Newsmax's "Eric Bolling The Balance" that he was being held to a different standard than other United States officials who have turned down congressional subpoenas.

Specifically, Bolling noted the case of onetime Attorney General Eric Holder, who ignored a congressional subpoena but was not pursued by former President Barack Obama's Justice Department on contempt charges.

"I'm the only person, really," Navarro said of being pursued for contempt, adding that "I'm the only person in that courthouse who ever created hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs, and during the pandemic saved hundreds of thousands – if not millions – of Americans lives. This is what I get for it."

However, with viewers helping by going to DefendPeter.com, Navarro says he is confident "we're going to win this fight" in appeals court.

"My big challenge now is I got another half a million dollars to raise. I already spent half a million dollars on the case. But this will be appealed. We have great grounds with that," he assured.

Navarro was denied the ability to invoke executive privilege to avoid charges from skipping the subpoena, first issued by the now-defunct House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
