Pat Boone: Entertainment Is 99% Liberal; 'Offensive' to Americans

Newsmax TV's "The Steve Malzberg Show"

Meryl Streep was lauded by Hollywood liberals for using an awards speech to blast President Donald Trump, but a majority of Americans were appalled by it, legendary hit-maker and movie actor Pat Boone told Newsmax TV.

Last month, Streep, star of "Sophie's Choice" and "Mama Mia," ripped into Trump as she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award at Golden Globes, and while the three-time Oscar winner is a "fine person and wonderful actress," Boone told Tuesday's "The Steve Malzberg Show," she definitely crossed the line.

"She began to talk about the current government, the president, and bad-mouthed him and policies which are barely even known to us, and they're certainly not full formed yet.

"Of course, her audience there was all liberal, and thought she was just tremendous — Saint Meryl — but she was offending a huge part of the movie audience and a large part of the TV audience who are very happy there's a president who's actually doing what he says he's going to do.

"So, I just felt it was wrong . . . The entertainment industry is 99 percent liberal, if not to say socialist, and now they're feeling what we conservatives felt for the last eight years."

Boone — a vocal conservative who has sold over 45 million records, had dozens of Top 40 hits, and has starred in movies like "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "State Fair" — added he knew of conservative entertainers who lost projects for backing Trump.

"I don't know how Jon Voight is still allowed to stay in the country," Boone said of the Oscar-winning "Midnight Cowboy" star and father of actress Angelina Jolie. "According to most liberals . . . he was very much for Trump."
