Voters might feel like they are stuck with two unlikeable candidates for president this year in Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, but they should not sit home on Election Day, legendary singer Pat Boone told Newsmax TV.

"Seventy percent of the voting public even in the various parties don't like those candidates," Boone said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show." "So we've got to forget about who the candidates are, look at the platforms because that's what's going to determine our future, not either of those two people."

Republican nominee Trump has been hit with allegations of sexism in recent days, while Democratic nominee Clinton has been the focus of a drip, drip, drip of email leaks from the watchdog group WikiLeaks.

Boone said no matter who wins, they will be held in check by the judicial and legislative branches of government.

Since Congress holds the purse strings of government, it is vital to keep the GOP in charge of the House and Senate, he said. "Then, we the people will still be in charge no matter who wins the presidency."

Republicans can still win the White House, he said, even though the polls are not in Trump's favor.

Boone paraphrased 2 Chronicles 7:14, saying God says, "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, turn from their own wickedness, including calling each other names, I'll hear from heaven, I'll forgive their sin, I'll heal their land."

But, Boone added, "if we keep shunning him, pushing him out of governmental concerns, then he'll say, 'OK, have it your way, see how you do it on your own.' That's not what the founding fathers had in mind."
