Rep. Guy Reschenthaler to Newsmax TV: Expect 'Softening' With China Under Biden

(Newsmax TV's "The Chris Salcedo Show")

The U.S. rejoining the international Paris Climate Agreement would be just one example of President Joe Biden appeasing China, Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, R-Pa., told Newsmax TV.

Biden, who was sworn in earlier Wednesday, has vowed to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord, which former President Donald Trump pulled out of in November 2019.

"The Paris Agreement does nothing except hurt the American economy," Reschenthaler told host Chris Salcedo on "The Chris Salcedo Show." "Those goals are voluntary, and the ones that aren't voluntary for China and other nations don't come into effect until 2030, 2035, and elsewhere.

"It's not real for these other parties. It just hurts Americans, and it hurts the natural gas sector of our economy and those jobs."

Reschenthaler, who last week was selected to serve on the House Committee on Rules and House Committee on Appropriations, has been a member of the chamber's China Task Force. He expects the Biden administration to do a lot to placate the Chinese Communist Party.

"I also think you're going to see a softening on China," he said. "Another great example from today, getting back in the World Health Organization. The Word Health Organization parroted Chinese Communist Party talking points all last year. They lied to the world [about COVID-19].

"They sat on evidence. They wouldn't allow any inspectors to come to the Wuhan facility. And, by us getting back in the World Health Organization, we fund what is really a parroting apparatus for the Chinese Communist Party."

Overall, the congressman was pessimistic about how the new administration will deal with mainland China.

"I think you're going to see a softening on China, unfortunately," Reschenthaler said. "This administration and the Democrats by and large do not take the threat from China seriously,  and they do that at the peril of America."
