Dick Morris to Newsmax TV: Biden Wrong in Blasting 1776 Commission

President Joe Biden calling the 1776 Commission "offensive and counter-factual" was wrong, according to former presidential adviser Dick Morris on Newsmax TV.

Biden signed four executive orders that dealt with racial equality Tuesday, when he blasted former President Donald Trump's 1776 Commission, which issued a report criticizing how American students were taught about the country's formation and the history of slavery and racial discrimination.

"It's what taught in American schools under Leftist curricula, and it's totally absurd," Morris told host Chris Salcedo on "The Chris Salcedo Show" on Wednesday. "The main thing you have to look at is that 400,000 white Union soldiers died to eliminate slavery — the only place in the world where that was a war at that level of magnitude.

"The United States paid many times over for sins in slavery. And the 1776 Commission is designed to let Americans know about their history and about the positive aspects of it – and correct the wrongs that were put there."

Morris, a former adviser to ex-presidents Bill Clinton and Trump, said Biden's racial agenda was based on slavery.

"This all goes back to The New York Times declaring 1619 as the fundamental date in American history because that's the date, apparently, the first slaves came to the United States, to the Jamestown colony," he said.

"And the theory is that after that, everything that was built in the United States was because of slave labor, and that the United States is built on a foundation of slavery that we ignored in the Declaration of Independence and ignored in the Constitution and only dealt with after the Civil War."
