"Get rid of the old — and, in fact, bring in the new," the eldest son of former President Ronald Reagan told "Newsmax Now" host Bill Tucker. "That's one of the major problems the Democrat Party has.

"As bad as people think Trump is, there's nobody in the Democrat Party who — in fact, today — if there were an election, could beat Donald Trump for the nomination, or the presidency.

"Yes, the party's in transition," he said of the GOP, "but it's the transition from the party of Reagan to the party of Trump.

"We had our time in our sun," Reagan added. "We had our days back in the 1980s.

"It's a new era, a new time — and this is becoming the party of Trump."
