MSNBC political analyst Mark Halperin on Wednesday told "Newsmax Now" that many Democratic operatives don’t believe they have a candidate that can win the White House in 2020.
Halperin, who was fired from NBC News two years ago after allegations of sexual harassment at his former job, appeared on "Newsmax Now" Wednesday night to discuss his new book, “How to Beat Trump,” about the upcoming presidential election.

“The Democrats I interviewed have great experience in past presidential campaigns, some winning, some losing,” he said. “And the reason I wrote this book was I kept hearing from them over and over: ‘our party does not have a candidate who can beat’” President Donald Trump.
“Incumbents almost never lose, since 1900 four elected incumbents have lost reelection, and Donald Trump is a beast of a presidential candidate. He got elected last time with no campaign, this time he’ll have over a billion dollars to spend.”
Halperin added later that the Democratic candidates “face a lot of challenges, including the fact that Donald Trump has been running for re-election now for a couple years. These Democrats are focused on trying to beat each other, and they’ll be doing that at least until March, and maybe all the way until the convention in July.”
He said that his book does “not advocate” Trump’s defeat, and actually “talks a lot about why he’s a strong candidate, including the fact that he led a movement. This is not someone who should be taken lightly, not just because he’s great on Twitter, but because he talks about issues that excite a lot of the American people.”
