Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., told Newsmax TV on Friday that it “would be crazy” if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., took command of the White House because of President Donald Trump’s illness.
Green told “John Bachman Now” on Friday, after Trump announced that he and the first lady had tested positive for the coronavirus, that it’s “absurd” to suggest that the president became sick because of his reluctance to wear a mask, as Pelosi did in recent comments to the press.
“I think to suggest, you know, he’s gotten this disease by some kind of failure of his own, and that by now getting it it’s going to wake up the rest of the people, I think that’s absurd,” the congressman said.
He added later that the prospect of Pelosi stepping in “as President of the United States is frightening, she’s run the House of Representatives as a tyrant, you know, concentrating power into fewer and fewer hands, initiating an impeachment without even having a vote.”
Green said, “That would be crazy, but as I understand it, the delegations get to decide, and … each state gets one vote, and as we run the numbers that looks better for us than them.”
As for the Trumps testing positive for the coronavirus, Green, a former emergency room physician, said he’s not too concerned about how they’ll fare, though he is “heartbroken” that they contracted the disease.
“We’re obviously praying for them,” he added, “and confident that he and she will be fine.”
