Ex-Israeli Defense Official Urges US to Let Marines Pack Heat

By    |   Friday, 17 Jul 2015 03:34 PM

A former Israeli defense official tells Newsmax TV the United States must quickly rethink its ban on military personnel carrying firearms on bases and installations in the wake of the tragic killings of four Marines in Tennessee.

"When you are facing radical Muslims attacking your soldiers, you should reconsider that policy," Danon — former Israeli deputy minister of defense, a Likud party member of the Knesset — said Friday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

On Thursday, a gunman of Middle Eastern descent killed four U.S. Marines at a Navy Reserve center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A fifth Marine was wounded at a nearby Armed Forces recruiting center.

Marines, as well as other U.S. soldiers, are prohibited from carrying firearms on military facilities — a regulation Danon says flies in the face of the duties placed upon those serving their country.

"I've told my people, my soldiers, when you go home, you are also on duty, you also have to keep your eyes open … I would recommend your lawmakers to re-evaluate this policy," Danon said.

Danon is author of "Israel: The Will to Prevail," published by Palgrave Macmillan."
