Rep. Jody Hice, R-Ga., told Newsmax TV Rep. Liz Cheney’s comments criticizing former President Donald Trump will “come back to bite her.”
Cheney, R-Wyo., the third-ranking member of the House GOP leadership, on Sunday during a Fox News interview said Republicans should not be embracing the former president. Her comments came after the Wyoming GOP voted to censure Cheney over her impeachment vote.
"We have to make sure that we are able to convey to the American voters, we are the party of responsibility, we are the party of truth, that we actually can be trusted to handle the challenges this nation faces like COVID, and that's going to require us to focus on substance and policy and issues going forward but we should not be embracing the former president," she said.
Hice said Cheney is committing political suicide with her continuous criticism of Trump.
“We had a meeting last week to deal with this type of rhetoric coming from Liz Cheney and I can absolutely tell you one person who is absolutely not the leader of the Republican Party and that’s Liz Cheney,” Hice said during an appearance on Monday's "John Bachman Now."
“She’s having a hard enough of a time just leading the Republican conference and for her to continue making these type of outlandish comments is so unfortunate for our entire conference. Make no mistake, Donald Trump is, whether she likes it or not, still largely the face of the Republican Party and his influence, his policies, are going to continue leading the Republican Party. She had best just get out of the way of the reality of what the Republican Party has come under the incredible leadership of Donald Trump.
“It’s going to come back to bite her. She is kicking her political career away and she’s going to earn every bit of it,” he added.
