Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is purposely ignoring United States immigration laws, Rep. Josh Brecheen, R-Okla., told Newsmax.
Despite the party-line bifurcation, Republican members of Congress say they have a duty to hold civil officers accountable.
"What we want the American people to know is that we're going to operate under the rule of law," Brecheen told Thursday's "National Report." "As the Democrats accuse of playing politics with this, we are saying this is not about policy differences. This is about the rule of law violation."
Citing Alexander Hamilton's Federalist Papers, Brecheen said no member of Congress, the judiciary, or the presidency is above the Constitution.
"This secretary says in a memo to his employees coming here illegally is not enough grounds to deport them," Brecheen said. "And that's the reason we don't see deportation. We see them being placed into the interior of the United States."
Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., meanwhile, decried the investigation as a "circus sideshow" and Republican maneuvering will not help border security or the fentanyl crisis.
The congressman from Oklahoma concluded by suggesting Mayorkas is knowingly circumventing U.S. laws without remorse.
"This man is thumbing his nose at the rule of law," Brecheen said. "And whatever we tolerate, we empower. The House has to act because lawlessness begets lawlessness."
