Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio outlined on Newsmax TV the House Republicans’ strategy for contesting the Electoral College results on Wednesday, running from voting law and rule changes not approved by state legislatures to claims of fraudulent votes being cast or changed.
“What you’re going to see is several members of the United States’ House of Representatives object to the electors being accepted and certified in six states,” Jordan said Tuesday during special election coverage of the Georgia Senate runoff races. “And the reason you’re going to see that is because in all of these states there was unconstitutional change in the election rules just prior to the election.”
Jordan, 56, who in November was elected to an eighth term in the House of Representatives from Ohio’s 4th Congressional District north and west of Columbus and Cleveland, referred to – without specifying a state or official – several executive actions that have been disputed by Republicans.
Among them were Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Kathy Boockvar’s decision to count mail-in ballots received up to three days after election, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s decision to uphold that and another decision to allow certain Democratic counties to correct or “cure” absentee ballots, and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s altering of signature verification procedures on mail-in ballots to settle a suit brought by state Democrats.
“The Constitution is very straightforward,” Jordan added. “It says that the legislature determines the time, place and manner for elections – not Supreme Courts in the state, not secretaries of state, not county clerks, not Facebook, not Twitter, it says the legislature. And in all of these states that we will object to tomorrow, someone outside the legislature, they went around the legislature and changed the election rules. And the reason they had to go around the legislature is because they were controlled by Republicans.
“So they sued in friendly court, or they got a hack secretary of state who changed the rules at the last minute. That’s how they did this. And then on top of that, you had the fraud that’s been talked about for over the last nine weeks.”
