LA Minister: 'Pimp' Al Sharpton 'Hustled' Ferguson

Racially-troubled Ferguson was "pimped" by the Rev. Al Sharpton, who "hustled" the Missouri city after the shooting of Michael Brown and blew town, says Johnathan Gentry, minister of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ.

Gentry told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV that following multiple appearances in the St. Louis suburb amid protests and unrest, Sharpton was nowhere to be seen after the shooting of two Ferguson police officers.

"In my personal opinion, Al Sharpton disappeared. We see this man's face more than we see children at Disneyland. You understand? Now all of a sudden, you disappeared when you see officers being killed?" Gentry said Monday.

"What happened to you? What happened to your clique? What happened to your entourage? What happened to Ferguson? You're nowhere to be found now that the chips fell where they did.

"It just goes to show the … agenda that he's about and what he represents, plain and simple … He's a hustler. He gets what he can and when he can and you're being pimped. Ferguson was pimped by Sharpton. Yes, I said it. They were pimped by him and he's nowhere to be found because he got what he wanted."

The two cops — shot outside Ferguson police headquarters during a protest over a Justice Department report that found racism in the city — both survived.

Following the shootings, Sharpton, an MSNBC host, said on the network's "Morning Joe" program that "absolutely, unequivocally, no one that I know involved in the protests or the Brown family would condone shooting at police, shooting police, and hopefully these two policemen — or any other violence."

Ferguson has been a racial powder keg since last August when Brown, an African-American teenager, was shot dead by Darren Wilson, a white police officer. Wilson was cleared of criminal and civil rights charges.

Sharpton, president of the National Action Network, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, and other civil rights leaders were among those to come to Ferguson shortly after Brown's death.

Following the cop shootings, former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik pointed the finger at Sharpton on Newsmax TV last week, telling Steve Malzberg:

"There's a number of people responsible for the climate. In my opinion, the civil rights leaders, you know Al Sharpton is one, that instigated, that incited [this]. Since Jan. 1, three law enforcement officers have been shot and killed. Every one of them has been black. [One] was a U.S. marshal who works for the Department of Justice.

"I haven't heard Al Sharpton or any of these so-called civil rights leaders or any of these other leaders that have been pushing for these protests … calling for justice … calling for protests concerning these attacks. To people … [dealing] with the dangers of law enforcement, that's pretty annoying."

Gentry said he is trying to organize a meeting of federal and local Ferguson officials to calm the shell-shocked community.

"We need to come to an understanding. I'm trying to gather community leaders from all over. [Attorney General] Eric Holder and [President Barack] Obama. I would like to sit down with these men because they know what's going on," he said.

"These men have platforms where they can bring change. They can bring change. They can bring in unity, but they're not."
