He cited an explosive new
AP-GfK poll which reveals just 39 percent of all Americans have a favorable view of Clinton, compared to almost half who have a negative opinion of her. The new figure represents an eight-point increase in her unfavorable rating.
In addition, Clinton's favorability among Democrats has dropped 11 points since April, according to the poll.
"Thirty-nine percent. At one point, some folks might've been worried that Hillary would get the nomination. The Republicans are now worried that she won't be nominated because she's become really a relatively diminished character in the political process," Sununu said.
"People are seeing that she's not trustworthy, people are seeing that she's not sincere, people are seeing that she's not strong on policies, people are seeing that they're not getting any information from her.
"Her standing has fallen and unless she starts fixing this free fall, the Democrats may be doodling around to kind of tickle [Vice President Joe] Biden or [Secretary of State John] Kerry into the race."
Sununu, the former chief of staff to President George H.W. Bush, joked that it's not a matter of what Clinton is doing wrong.
"She's doing it right for us," he said.
Sununu is author of the book,
"The Quiet Man: The Indispensable Presidency of George H.W. Bush," published by Broadside Books.
