Newsmax's Gizzi: Republicans Felt Too Much Heat on Debt Ceiling

By    |   Wednesday, 12 February 2014 05:10 PM EST

Republicans were feeling too much heat to make a fuss over the debt ceiling, Newsmax Washington Bureau Chief John Gizzi says.

"I just came from a meeting where a spokesman for [House Speaker John Boehner] was put on the hot seat," Gizzi told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"He says, quite honestly . . . there was just such opposition from so many Republican members to raising the debt ceiling, period.

"They concluded there was nothing they could attach to it that would have the broad-based appeal to have Republicans defy the tea party groups in their district, defy prospective primary opponents, and say I'm going for a debt ceiling."
