Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is "out there speaking the truth" — and that's why his poll numbers are rising, the Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson told
Newsmax TV on Thursday.
"This is good for Dr. Carson because more and more people are learning about him," Peterson, a conservative black civil-rights activist, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" in an interview. "Especially in the black community, where a lot of blacks were not aware of Dr. Carson — but now they are becoming aware of him.
"He's not apologizing for the truth," he added. "It's healthy and it's good."

Peterson, president of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny organization in Los Angeles, also slammed President Barack Obama for not defending Christians in his remarks last week about the Oregon community college shootings.
"I don't know of one time where Obama has defended Christians, but I can name countless times where he's defended Muslims," he told Malzberg. "I was surprised that when he held that last press conference about the shooting in Roseburg, there was not one mention about Christians, even though the news was already out that that man targeted Christians.
"I've been saying for the last six and half years or so that Barack Obama is not a Christian, that Barack Obama hates Christians," Peterson added. "If Americans cannot see it for themselves at this point, I don't know what else it's going to take."
