President Donald Trump's primetime speech about the war in Iran presented a clear and far-reaching strategy aimed at eliminating long-standing threats posed by Tehran, Jason Miller, a former senior adviser to the president, told Newsmax on Thursday.
Speaking on "Bianca Across the Nation," Miller said Trump "very specifically and concisely" detailed objectives that go beyond limiting Iran's nuclear ambitions.
"The president laid out that we want to stop Iran's ability to pursue a nuclear weapon, absolutely eliminate any access Iran has to ballistic missiles, [and] make sure their Navy and Air Force is destroyed," Miller said.
He added that a central component of the strategy is stopping Iran's ability to "export terror," both regionally and globally.
Miller pointed to concerns about Iranian activity in critical waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz, as well as broader international security risks.
Miller also emphasized that Trump framed the issue within a broader context, highlighting what he described as decades of Iranian aggression against the United States.
"The president laid out the historical case of how Iran has been a threat — not just a threat, but also attacking and killing Americans for years, literally for decades," he said.
According to Miller, that context is important as the administration moves forward with what he characterized as a faster-paced approach compared to past conflicts.
He also said Trump sought to connect foreign policy decisions to everyday concerns for Americans, particularly those not closely following geopolitical developments.
"Most Americans (are) worried about going to work every day or going to school or paying the bills — they might not be tracking what this chaos does to international markets [or] what it does to our economy," Miller said.
Miller argued that removing the perceived threat posed by Iran could have long-term benefits, including economic stability and enhanced national security.
"To remove this and to have the threat of Iran gone for the next 50 years, or maybe permanently, that is well worth the sacrifice we're making right now," he said.
Trump's speech Wednesday night comes amid heightened tensions in the region, as U.S. officials continue to weigh military, economic, and diplomatic measures in response to Iran's actions.
During the speech, Trump maintained that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, calling such a prospect "an intolerable threat," and said the country was building a vast arsenal of ballistic missiles that were a threat to America's homeland.
While he said Iran's ballistic missile capacity was greatly reduced, he didn't explain how the operation had headed off Iran's nuclear ambitions. He and his administration had previously insisted that the U.S. and Israel "obliterated" Iran's nuclear program in strikes last summer.
