J.D. Gordon: Obama's Gitmo Policy 'Will Kill More Americans'

By    |   Thursday, 15 January 2015 01:10 PM

President Barack Obama is on mission to close Guantanamo Bay no matter how dangerous the prisoners housed there may be, former Pentagon spokesman J.D. Gordon said Thursday on "America’s Forum" on Newsmax TV.

"Over the years, the international left has basically portrayed these Gitmo detainees as today's Che Guevaras," Gordon said, referring to the Argentinian Marxist who played a pivotal role in the Cuban revolution. "Che Guevara just standing up to the man, standing up for the little guy.

"That's how President Obama and the international left view these guys. That's why they let them out even though President Obama knows that nearly one out of three has gone back to terrorism. He's releasing them anyway despite what happened in Paris.

"That is horrible, the American people ought to hold him accountable."

The detainees' release puts American troops in direct harm, according to Gordon, who noted that many soldiers have died trying to arrest and detain the terrorists housed at Gitmo.

"It's a fact that we're going to lose more Americans because of all these Guantanamo detainees that President Obama is letting go," he said. "He's released about half of them.

"When he came into office in 2009, we had over 240. Now it's just over 120. The five guys he just released right now, four to Oman and one to Estonia, these guys were front line fighters in Afghanistan, in Pakistan," Gordon said.

"They were at Tora Bora with bin Laden. One of them was a bodyguard for bin Laden, but those are the type of people that President Obama's letting go."

The argument by the "international left" to release or try the terrorists is ludicrous, according to Gordon.

"Did we try all the Nazis in court during World War II? No we didn't," he said. "It's just a false construct. President Obama is acting on his ideology. He's basically a member of the international left. He thinks the Guantanamo detainees are the victims here."

Law enforcement’s tools, including coercive interrogations, have been weakened under the Obama administration, resulting in a more challenging atmosphere to capture terrorists.

Radical Islam has hijacked an otherwise peaceful religion, according to Gordon, and it’s time the U.S. put pressure on Muslim nations to take a zero tolerance stand on the radical Islamist ideology.

"The West has defended itself against anarchism, Nazism, communism," said Gordon. "The battle of our day is against radical Islam.

"We've got to identify it and go after it. We've got to pressure Saudi Arabia and Iran to stop exporting this toxic ideology, starting with rewriting their textbooks for kids, starting with changing their blasphemy laws, and putting real pressure on the regimes. We're not doing it.

"You know at the palace in Riyadh, it's just another day at the office essentially every day."

Gordon said he doesn’t buy into the lone-wolf characterization of terrorists radicalized on social media or those not directly affiliated with an organized structure, saying that "even though there might not be operational links as far as exchanging money or data, there's certainly the ideological link that they help communicate together."

Instead, Gordon refers to them as a wolf pack.

"The fact that President Obama won't even name it as radical Islam, that's dangerous," he said.
