The government has to step up and call terrorist acts, like the beheading in Oklahoma, what they are: terrorism, former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy says.
"The government seems to take the position … that essentially unless you're wearing an al-Qaida t-shirt or … [an] actual membership in al-Qaida, they say it's not terrorism," he said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on
Newsmax TV.

"It just seems to be silly to take the position that because we don't have the evidence at this moment that ties you as a formal member of a designated terrorist organization it somehow can't be terrorism.
"[Especially] when it's clear the intention is to both terrorize and to affiliate itself in a very pronounced way with the global jihadist movement. The government's position on these things is preposterous."
McCarthy, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, is the author of
