If the United States opts for military action against North Korea, a massive and devastating war involving China and Russia could follow, North Korean expert Gordon Chang told Newsmax TV.
During an appearance on "Newsmax Now," Chang and host Bill Tucker discussed some of the options for dealing with the reclusive nation as it pursues a nuclear arsenal — and threatens the U.S. with it.
"I think that we can actually disarm North Korea through sanctions. We don't actually have to consider forceful measures like the bloody nose," said Chang, referencing a military strategy that would entail taking out North Korea's nuclear weapons and facilities.

Later in the interview, Chang said the next World War has the potential to erupt if the U.S. elects to use force.
"The other possible option is that North Korea and China then go to war with the United States, and I don't think that we're prepared for that," Chang said. "If we're to talk about the use of force, we got to say to the American people that yeah, it very well may work, or the other thing is we may end up in the history's first nuclear exchange, and we got to be prepared that American cities will be destroyed by Chinese and Russian nukes.
"There's a whole range of scenarios that are out there and this is a discussion that the American people need to have."
Chang then brought up the idea of sanctioning banks in China, a country that has been accused of aiding the North Koreans.
"I'm not saying 100 percent that these sanctions will work, but we haven't tried them yet and until we do, I think that we should not use those [military] tactics — which could end up in history's last war."
