Florida state Rep. Danny Perez told Newsmax TV that Florida is definitely a red state thanks to the Latino vote.

During a Thursday appearance on “National Report,” the Republican lawmaker said Cubans, Venezuelans, and Nicaraguans residing in the Sunshine State showed their support for the Republican Party on Election Day.

“We can officially state with complete confidence that Florida is no longer a purple state,” he said. “Florida is a red state.”

He said while Cuban Americans have historically been conservative voters, they showed that they believe the “Republican Party is a party of opportunity” at the ballot box.

While President Donald Trump carried the state of Florida thanks to a boost from the Latino community, he didn’t win over the same type of support in the state of Arizona.

Perez said the Latino population in Arizona is different than Florida.

“Latino voters aren’t carrying Trump in the same way they are in Florida,” he said, adding he thinks the election will come down to whether Trump wins Nevada.
