The nation was no longer comfortable with James Comey continuing to run the FBI and President Donald Trump was right to fire him, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.
"I don't know about the timing, [but] the issue for me is public confidence and confidence with our leaders," the Republican lawman told host Bill Tucker on "America Talks Live" a day after Trump gave Comey his walking papers.
"None seemed to have confidence in [Comey], and so I think it was clearly time for him to go. Whether that was a month ago, two months ago, I don't know. To me, it got done fairly quickly.
"The fact he didn't have the confidence of the president, didn't have the confidence of elected leaders in both parties, and I don't think he had the confidence of the American people. . . . I have no doubt the president made the right move in removing him, and let's move on."
