Ros-Lehtinen: Administration 'Gullible' to Weigh Snowden Amnesty

By    |   Monday, 16 December 2013 03:53 PM EST

Word that the National Security Agency is mulling an amnesty deal for fugitive secrets leaker Edward Snowden "makes you want to tear your hair out," Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen says.

"This administration is so gullible. They're willing to make wheels and deals whether it's with Kim Jong Un in North Korea, heaven knows . . . with the Castro regime, the Iranian regime," the Republican told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"With Snowden, they're considering him, as long as he can give us back the documents, let's give him amnesty. What? This is unbelievable. It just makes you want to tear your hair out."

Story continues below video.

Snowden, a former contractor with the National Security Agency, is in Russia after fleeing the United States earlier this year and releasing classified information about the NSA's spy programs, including surveillance of email and phone records.

Ros-Lehtinen, who was born in Cuba, is particularly disturbed that the Obama administration has had secret talks with Cuba about restoring diplomatic ties when U.S. citizen Alan Gross remains in prison there.

"To think we . . . negotiate over the life of an American citizen who has been unjustly tried and sentenced to harsh prison terms," she said.

"He's now entering his fifth year, and this is a contractor with the U.S. [Agency for International Development] who was in charge of giving communication equipment to the very tiny Jewish community in Cuba, and the Castro regime knew what Alan Gross was doing.

"I mean, they check everyone when they come in, and they tracked all of those folks. This one time they decided, OK, that's it, we've had enough."
