Doug Collins to Newsmax TV: Stacey Abrams Touts Absentee Ballot Figures to Suppress GOP

By    |   Wednesday, 16 December 2020 07:25 PM EST

Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., says Stacey Abrams touting the fact that 1.2 million Georgians have requested absentee ballots for the Jan. 5 Senate runoff election is a subtle form of intimidation.

Abrams on Monday told news outlets 85,000 of the 1.2 million that requested absentee ballots came from voters who didn't cast ballots in November.

“The day after our election I remember getting a text from a liberal group asking me if I’m going to get an absentee ballot for the January 5th election. This is how organized they were,” Collins said Wednesday during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “Spicer & Co.”
“If Stacey Abrams and them are trying to get these numbers out there, this is her subtle form of intimidation, this is her subtle form of voter suppression, saying Republicans you don’t need to come out. It’s time, though, for us to turn that tide and say, ‘No, we need to come out.’”

Abrams, the founder of “Fair Fight,” which aims to fight voter suppression and help encourage voter turnout, told CBS that early voting shows an upward trend for the Democratic challengers.

"This is a state that is almost evenly divided. The presidential election was decided by fewer than 12,000 votes. But what's at stake isn't divisive, what's at stake is relief for our communities," she said.

Abrams also said 85,000 of the 1.2 million applications for mail-in ballots come from voters who didn’t cast ballots in November.

"They are disproportionately voters between the ages of 18 and 29 and disproportionately people of color,” she told CBS “This Morning.”

Raphael Warnock is challenging Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler in one election and Republican Senator David Perdue is being challenged by Jon Ossoff.
