On November 9, 2013, three of the four surviving Doolittle's Raiders, who pulled off one of history’s greatest military missions, gathered at the National Museum of the United States Air Force near Dayton, Ohio, to uncork a bottle of 1896 Hennessy Cognac and drink a final toast to their fallen comrades. With their number dwindled to a precious few, they raised their silver goblets one last time ending 68-year-old tradition.
The survivors reminisce about their service in the all-volunteer, 80-member U.S. Army Air Corps B-25 bomber group that raided the Japanese islands for the first time during World War II — barely four months after America's entry into the war following the horrific attack on Pearl Harbor. The audacious raid, led by famed commander Lt. Col. James Harold Doolittle, was seen as payback and it boosted the morale of America and China, and proved to the vicious Japanese warlords that their homeland was not invulnerable.
With never-before seen footage and photos, “Doolittle’s Raiders: A Final Toast” presents a detailed look at the so-called Doolittle Raid and allows Americans to have one last look at its surviving Raiders.
“Doolittle’s Raiders: A Final Toast” is hosted by Gary Sinese, the Oscar-nominated star of “Forrest Gump” and founder of The Gary Sinese Foundation, which honors America’s defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need.
