Dick Morris: Jeb Is 'Indistinguishable' From Brother and Father

In order to pull his presidential campaign out of its deepening downward spiral, Jeb Bush must "differentiate himself' from "the ghosts" of his father, former President George H.W. Bush, and his brother, former President George W. Bush, who currently "hang over his head," veteran political strategist Dick Morris says.

Morris told host Miranda Khan on 'Newsmax Now' on Newsmax TV Monday that neither Bush president could be elected in the political climate of today and that Jeb must distance himself from them both by pointing out specific issues in which he would act differently from his father and brother.

"What he needs to do is to differentiate himself from the ghosts that are hanging over his head," Morris, author of "Power Grab: Obama's Dangerous Plan for a One-Party Nation," said. "Every time he goes out there, everybody is comparing him to George W. and to Bush 41.

"He needs to be explicit about saying that he thinks the Iraq War was a mistake and when we found no WMDs there he would have pulled out. He needs to say that [George W.] Bush should have put in place the Glass-Steagall act again and stop the build up to the crash of 2008.

"The fundamental defect that Bush has is that he's indistinguishable from his brother and his father and I don't think either of those guys could get elected today."

When asked if a new political ad by the Bernie Sanders campaign is a subtle attack on Hillary Clinton, Morris said, "yeah, sure it is."

"But just like Tina Fey doomed Sarah Palin and we would always see her when Sarah spoke, so Larry David has doomed Bernie Sanders," Morris said, referencing the comedian who has been impersonating Sanders on "Saturday Night Live."

"Whenever we see Bernie speaking, we're thinking of Larry.

"[Sanders] needs to be much more explicit in going after Hillary for her positions. He has to hold her accountable for the shortcomings of the Obama administration.

'Hillary was for an individual mandate, I'm for single payer.' 'Hillary endorsed the war in Libya, I think it was a waste.' 'Hillary wanted to get us into Syria, I'm glad we didn't and we shouldn't.'

"What he's got to do is to set up direct contrasts with her and go through the litany of issues where the left is disappointed with [President Barack] Obama. I was once talking to a left-wing friend of mine and I said, 'Obama's a socialist.' And she, who is a socialist, said, 'I wish.'"
