Wash. Post's Rubin: Obama Pushing 'Mythical' ISIS Coalition

Thursday, 18 September 2014 08:19 PM EDT

Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin, author of the "Right Turn" blog, believes President Barack Obama will have a difficult if not impossible task in forming a coalition to fight the Islamic State (ISIS).

"It is a mythical coalition. We have a zero buy-in from anyone and can you blame them?" Rubin said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"Look at it from the perspective of Saudi Arabia or Egypt or Jordan. Here’s a president who went to Iran, their mortal enemy to talk to them about coming into the fight.

"Here is a president who drew a red line and then un-drew it. This is the least dependable ally they can imagine and they’re supposed to put their folks in peril? Rely on this president? I wouldn’t do it if I were in their place, that would be madness."

Rubin said the president has only himself to blame.

"When you are untrustworthy and when your word does not mean anything, people won’t sign up to fight with you," she said.

"He’s going to be lucky if he gets anything so he doesn’t want to put his own boots on the ground so good luck getting others to put their boots on the ground."
