Chris Ager to Newsmax: 'Very High' Turnout at N.H. Primary

By    |   Tuesday, 23 January 2024 02:53 PM EST

New Hampshire GOP Chair Chris Ager told Newsmax on Tuesday that the showdown between former President Donald Trump and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley drove a "very high" turnout for the 2024 Republican primary.

Ager, speaking to "National Report" from Bedford, New Hampshire, said that the town "is one of those suburban kind of bedroom communities where you'd expect Nikki Haley to do a little bit better, and the turnout is very high."

"We’re expecting record turnout now with the numbers we’re seeing, and so in these bedroom communities that lean Nikki Haley, we've seen very high turnout," Ager said. "I'm waiting to get some numbers from the northern part of the state, which is more rural, which we expect to go much more heavily for Donald Trump."

Ager said that judging by the polling, "it appears that the intensity of the Trump vote is going to make a big difference, it's just whether or not those more easygoing to say anti-Trump or Nikki Haley voters are they actually going to turn out in those numbers, and we just can't tell yet."

When asked whether voters have reported any issues at polling locations, Ager said: "The only thing I've heard so far is that there's a line of about over 100 people at a polling site, and it's because of volume. It's not because of any problems that have occurred, but just pure volume."
