Fred Fleitz to Newsmax: China Unlikely to Support Russia Militarily

By    |   Monday, 20 February 2023 11:46 AM EST

China is unlikely to give Russia significant military support in its year-old war with Ukraine, said CIA analyst Fred Fleitz, former National Security Council chief of staff.

Appearing on Newsmax's "National Report" on Monday, Fleitz discounted Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's concerns about China's support.

"The administration says it has information — I assume intelligence — that this is true," Fleitz said. "I'd like to see that presented to Congress under oath because I doubt it."

According to Fleitz, "China has been extremely reluctant to provide military support for a war that it does not favor.

"It supports the war to the extent that it causes problems for the U.S. and for Europe. But it poses a real threat to China's trade interests. And, frankly, given this administration's record, I'm not going to believe it until it's confirmed."

Fleitz blasted the Biden administration for "frequently" saying things "that are not true."

"If you go through the intelligence, you can find a piece of information that says this somewhere, it might not be credible," Fleitz said of a China-Russia alliance in the war against Ukraine.

"But it goes against the trend when the only two nations standing with Russia are North Korea and Iran. Is China really going to go in that direction? I'm just not prepared to accept that."

Fleitz also said he's skeptical that Iran is close to enriching uranium to weapons grade.

"We've been hearing this kind of talk for what two decades now," he said. "When the nation enriches uranium, they're trying to increase the percentage of the isotope uranium 235. But they're doing it in a gaseous compound called uranium hexafluoride. After they get to 90% that gas has to be converted to uranium metal. Then … put into a warhead.

"This is dangerous. But we're not looking at a weapon in a few months — maybe a year, 18 months. That's still too close, but you'll see other reporters saying that Iran is within months of a bomb. That's not correct."
