Bill O'Reilly on Trump in Asia: 'More Show Than Substance'

By    |   Wednesday, 08 November 2017 11:21 PM EST

Bill O'Reilly told Newsmax TV on Wednesday that President Donald Trump's trip to Asia was "more of a show than substance."

"The one thing that surprised me was now the president wants North Korea to come to a negotiation about nukes," O'Reilly told John Bachman on "Newsmax Now" in an interview. "That's a good thing.

"He becomes more reasonable in the eyes of the world when he says things like that.

"But let's face it, I mean the Chinese, their premier is in for life, right?" O'Reilly said. "He's there for life.

"Trump's there for three more years, maybe seven more years.

"The Chinese can wait us out," he told Bachman. "They're not going to do any favors to the USA.

"They'll say they'll do some stuff. They'll buy more products. They'll stop manipulating their currency. They'll lean on North Korea a little bit more.

"But in the end, they're not going to really help us," O'Reilly said, "but it's good to have at least a friendly relationship on the surface with China.

"The world can see that we're not the bad guys. We're not belligerent. We're not arrogant. We're trying.

"But it's more of show than substance."
