Bill Kristol on Carson's Response to Trump Slurs: 'Pretty Smart'

By    |   Friday, 13 November 2015 05:35 PM EST

Donald Trump's attacks on Republican presidential rival Ben Carson Thursday are showing voters that "Donald Trump's the one here who's got a bit of a screw loose, not Ben Carson," The Weekly Standard Editor Bill Kristol told Newsmax TV on Friday.

"We would know if there were deep, dark secrets in his practice over 25, 30 years. He does seem to have not behaved in a pathological way — and in fact to have cured whatever anger problems he had as a kid, and he says he cured them through a religious experience."

"Who is Donald Trump to question that? It's somewhat inappropriate, I think," he said.

Kristol added that Carson's response — calling on people to "pray for him" — was "very typical of Ben Carson."

"I don't know if that's the way he likes to conduct himself and how much of it's a political calculation. It's pretty smart."
