Wash. Examiner's Ferrechio: Jeb Is Attractive for 2016

By    |   Thursday, 15 May 2014 06:20 PM EDT

Columnist Eleanor Clift's claim that Ambassador Chris Stevens wasn't "murdered" in the Benghazi attacks caused a huge stir behind the scenes at "The McLaughlin Group," says Susan Ferrechio of the Washington Examiner, who argued with Clift over it.

"I was frankly flabbergasted by what she had to say," Ferrechio, the newspaper's chief congressional correspondent, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"I know the show was getting a lot of negative feedback on what she said, so I'm not sure how they're going to handle it … but I hope that they bring it up again.''

On last Sunday's edition of "The McLaughlin Group," a syndicated news-talk show, Clift, a columnist at The Daily Beast, stated the American ambassador was not "murdered," but rather died of smoke inhalation.

While that is technically true, the smoke was caused by a fire set by terrorists attacking the Benghazi consulate on Sept. 11th, 2012.

Clift refused to back down from her statement when she spoke with Steve Malzberg two days later.

"The implication was that, oops, you died in a fire,'' Ferrechio said.

Story continues below video.

On the issue of the 2016 presidential elections, Ferrechio said she is not surprised that House Speaker John Boehner has been talking up former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush as a viable choice.

"He's not a Rand Paul, he's not Ted Cruz. His wife is Hispanic, his children are Hispanic. He's a successful Florida governor … do I need to say more?" Ferrechio said.

"He's got so many attractive things about him. What's great about him also to the Republicans, besides the money he could potentially made, it's who he's not … [It's] not surprising that Boehner's in that camp — not surprising me anyway."
