Former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer told Newsmax TV Thursday that politicians should not be blaming President Barack Obama for terrorist attacks: "Blame it on the terrorists."

"I can't stand this notion that when something goes wrong and George Bush is the president, the Democrats blame it all on Bush," Fleischer who served under the Republican president, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" in an interview.

"When something goes wrong and Obama's the president, Republicans want to blame it on Obama. Blame it on the terrorists.

"We're at war and in a war," Fleischer said. "The other side is going to strike. We'll strike back.

"We need to get tougher, we need to do more. We actually need to do what the president said, which is destroy ISIS."

But even that objective is greatly flawed, he told Malzberg.

"When it comes to the president's policies, I do think when he said that we will degrade and ultimately destroy ISIS, it is so flexible that it's meaningless.

"It's like saying I hope I'm going to get between a D and an A on this paper for school, right? It can be whatever you want it to be, between degrade and destroy.

"What we need to do is not ultimately destroy ISIS. We need to destroy ISIS as soon as possible," Fleischer said. "That should be the focus of our country."
