Israeli Ambassador Dani Dayan: We See Eye to Eye with U.S. on Iran

The United States and Israel — sometimes at loggerheads on the subject of Iran during Obama administration — now see "eye to eye," under President Donald Trump, Ambassador Dani Dayan, the consul general of Israel, tells Newsmax TV.

"The three most important issues we are facing now: the first one is Iran, the second one is Iran, and the third one is Iran," Dayan said Tuesday to Steve Malzberg on "America Talks Live."

"The first one, of course, the nuclear fight. The willingness of Iran to achieve a nuclear weapon, military nuclear capabilities. We are [determined] to stop that. Luckily, after eight years, now we see eye to eye with the American administration."

Dayan said he believes that Tehran "now knows that there is no daylight between Jerusalem and Washington on that specific issue" and both are "determined to prevent Iran from acquiring military nuclear capabilities."

"That is by itself a strategic change that I assume worries Tehran very much, as it should," Dayan told Malzberg.

"But Iran is not only about nuclear capabilities. Iran is about the export, the foremost exporter of terrorism in the world and there is ICBM, intercontinental ballistic missiles, they are developing and testing.

"Make no mistake, they don't need ICBMs to attack Israel. They need ICBMs in order to attack Europe and to attack the United States of America. So it worries the president very much and rightly so."

Dayan said Trump was "completely right" in declaring that the Iran nuclear deal — hammered out to lower the Middle East nation’s nuclear capabilities — was a "terrible" agreement.

"I know that in the coming weeks and month — that both parties, the United States and Israel, will have intense talks about how to prevent Iran forever from acquiring nuclear capabilities," Dayan said.
