President Donald Trump suggested recent criticism targeting former Vice President Joe Biden is the product of a campaign launched by some left wing Democrats, Politico is reporting.
Trump’s comments came Tuesday during the spring fundraising dinner for the House Republicans’ campaign arm. He suggested Biden, who has yet to announce any plans to run for president, is “being taken care of pretty well by the socialists.”
Politico noted his comments imply that accusations by multiple women against Biden regarding physical interactions, have been planted by a rival Democratic presidential campaign. Two additional women have said Biden’s touches made them feel uncomfortable. All the women have said their interactions with Biden were not sexual in nature.
“It looks like the only non-, sort of heavy socialist, he is being taken care of pretty well by the socialists,” Trump said. “They got to him. Our former vice president. I was going to call him — I don't know him well. I was gonna say, ‘Welcome to the world, Joe. Are you having a good time, Joe?’”
Trump also took a jab at Biden. The president noted that while visiting Iraq, a general told him that the U.S. could defeat ISIS in one week, the Washington Examiner reported.
“I said, ‘General, come here, give me a kiss,’" Trump said. “I felt like Joe Biden. But I meant it.”
