Wis. Asks State Supreme Court to Take Union Case

Thursday, 07 April 2011 08:02 PM EDT

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker's administration is asking the Wisconsin Supreme Court to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the law that would take away nearly all collective bargaining rights from public workers.

The filing made Thursday also asked the Supreme Court to remove a judge's order blocking the law from going into effect.

The state Justice Department also asked on behalf of Walker's administration that any further action by a circuit court be put on hold while the Supreme Court reviews the case.

The circuit court last week put the case on hold indefinitely while it considers whether the state's open meetings law was violated when lawmakers passed the legislation. Republican legislators passed the law despite a bitter standoff with Democrats and weeks of pro-union protests at the Capitol.
