President Donald Trump said Tuesday that The Washington Post’s fact checker is “only for the Democrats,” prompting the paper to note that Trump cites their fact checker when they point out mistruths from Democrats.
"The Washington Post is a Fact Checker only for the Democrats," Trump tweeted. "For the Republicans, and for your all time favorite President, it is a Fake Fact Checker!"
The Post grades false statements on a scale of “Pinocchios,” with one being the lowest and four being given to the biggest “whoppers,” although the newspaper recently created a new category, the “bottomless Pinocchio,” which was inspired by the president.
"Reminder: Trump cites the @washingtonpost Fact Checker when we give Pinocchios to Democrats," the Post’s fact-checker, Glenn Kessler, tweeted on Tuesday.
The columnist then tweeted a quote from an interview with Trump by Laura Ingraham in 2017.
“Trump to Laura Ingraham on Nov. 2, 2017: "Even a certain newspaper that I don't like very much came out today and they gave Schumer four... four Pinocchios, and they said because he was not telling the truth, when it came to the middle class, because he said it's for the rich."
