Waffle House victim DeEbony Graves was honored at her college graduation Saturday when her mother Shirl Baker accepted her degree posthumously, WSMV-TV reports.
Groves, 21, was studying social work at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, when suspected gunman Travis Reinking opened fire last month at a Tennessee Waffle House. Reinking is facing four counts of criminal homicide.
Baker received a standing ovation when she walked across the stage to accept Graves’ degree at the Curb Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Her son, and DeEbony’s brother, DiAngelo Graves, also received his diploma.
Belmont President Robert Fisher told the commencement crowd that “while our hearts were broken, today we have the chance to celebrate DeEbony’s life together.”
