The United States embassy in Belgium has allocated $200,000 to a group that aims to promote positive stories of refugees and immigrants to Europe, The Daily Caller reports.
The grant is for non-profit groups who use digital platforms to distribute a "counter narrative" to "dispel the narratives of extremist groups that incite violence and provide alternative narratives. Provide positive narratives concerning refugees and immigrant populations," and to "reduce violent extremism and terrorism by promoting a comprehensive approach to address violent extremist challenges in Europe."
The number of refugees in Europe has sparked backlash, with many leaders adopting anti-immigration rhetoric.
Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo announced last week that "Poland cannot accept refugees," after refusing to take in any of the 6,200 refugees assigned to be relocated by the European Union, according to Radio Poland.
"Our office seeks to promote positive narratives and tolerant perspectives as well as directly dispel violent extremist messaging; reduce violent extremism through education, critical thinking, and structured dialogue; and enhance and amplify community-based resiliency efforts focused on women and youth," reads a document describing the project, according to The Daily Caller.
