The U.K. Parliament will debate whether President Donald Trump will be allowed to make an official state visit with Queen Elizabeth II after more than 700,000 people had signed a petition calling for it to be canceled.
Trump's visit was set to take place over the summer, but calls for canceling it came after the U.S. president on Friday signed an executive order banning people from seven countries with Islamic radical ties from entering the country for at least 90 days. Trump also banned refugees from entering the U.S. for four months, suspended the Syrian refugee program indefinitely and called for new immigration screening procedures.
Parliament considers all petitions that garner more than 100,000 signatures and the government responds to all petitions that get more than 10,000 signatures.
"Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government," the petition reads, "but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen."
It continues:
"Donald Trump's well documented misogyny and vulgarity disqualifies him from being received by Her Majesty the Queen or the Prince of Wales. Therefore during the term of his presidency Donald Trump should not be invited to the United Kingdom for an official State Visit."
