The U.S. military carried out strikes Tuesday on targets on Iran's Kharg Island, according to a U.S. official who spoke with Reuters.
The official emphasized the strikes did not affect oil infrastructure.
The latest action comes as tensions escalate and President Donald Trump issues a warning ahead of a self-imposed 8 p.m. EDT deadline for Iran to agree to a ceasefire.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
"A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!"
The strikes mark a significant escalation in U.S. military operations targeting Iranian assets, though officials say efforts were made to avoid disrupting global energy markets by sparing oil facilities.
