A high-profile fundraiser for military veterans hosted by Donald Trump last January reportedly didn't hit the $6 million mark the presumptive GOP nominee's campaign initially claimed.
After the Jan. 28 event in Des Moines, Iowa, the
Trump campaign announced $5 million was raised and that Trump personally contributed an additional $1 million.
But campaign manager Corey Lewandowski now says the take-in was less,
CNN reports.
Lewandowski tells CNN he didn't know "the exact" figure raised, saying more money had been pledged than was actually donated.
The
Washington Post reports the actual amount was off by $1.5 million: Lewandowski disputes that figure, CNN reports.
CNN reports it first questioned the fundraising tally in March, with the Trump campaign offering a list of 27 organizations that had given a total of $2.9 million – with most of the money coming from Trump’s foundation or those of two of his friends, businessman Carl Icahn and pharmaceutical billionaire Stewart J. Rahr.
