Voters in Iowa are growing more divided regarding their view of Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, in the wake of his remarks about white supremacy.
NBC News spoke with voters in King's district, which encompasses the northwestern part of Iowa. Some still support King, but others are beginning to consider voting for someone else.
"I wouldn't give him the time of day, now," lifelong Republican voter LaVerne Dass told the network. "If you have to talk like that, go home, go in the bathroom with the doors closed and say it — no place for that in Washington."
Another voter, meanwhile, said she still supports King.
"People who think it's offensive need to get a damn backbone and shut the hell up," Mary Grim said. Grim added he believes there is an ongoing "invasion" at America's southern border with Mexico.
King said last week, "White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?"
The remarks caused an outcry from Republicans and Democrats. King was ousted from his committee posts and was officially rebuked in a House vote.
Scott Wolff told NBC he thinks King's words came out wrong.
"Everybody slips up a little bit," Wolff said. "I don't think he really meant what he said. And he's trying to tell the people that. I hope that's the way it is."
