Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello are divorcing after seven years of marriage.
The former couple confirmed the news in a statement to Page Six.
"We have made the difficult decision to divorce," the statement read. "As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives."
Vergara has been in Italy celebrating her 51st birthday but as Page Six reported, Manganiello, 46, was notably absent. The "Modern Family" star was also not wearing her wedding ring.
"At the start of Sofia's big birthday trip those close to her were explaining away Joe's absence with the excuse that he was busy filming back on the East Coast; that excuse barely held up due to the writer's strike, but once the actor's strike took effect, he could have been on the first flight ... and he quite clearly is not," a source told the outlet. "So now no one out there with her is even attempting to pretend that it's not over. It's over. It's done."
The pair were last seen together last month in Hoboken, New Jersey, when Vergara visited Manganiello on the set of his new project "Nonnas." Manganiello then raised eyebrows with a birthday tribute on Instagram last week that simply read "!!Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!" ("Happy Birthday Sofía" in Spanish).
Another insider revealed to Page Six that the pair "have been growing apart for a while now and are taking some distance from each other to contemplate their future."
Vergara and Manganiello first met at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in 2014. At the time Vergara was engaged to businessman Nick Loeb, but they split a few weeks later and she reconnected with Manganiello. They exchanged wedding vows in November 2015 in a lavish Palm Beach ceremony.
Manganiello opened up about their relationship, and what made it work, in a 2020 interview.
"I knew pretty quickly that I could trust her, and she knew pretty quickly that she could trust me. And we're both the kind of people who are capable of putting the other person ahead of ourselves," he said, according to Page Six. "I was capable of putting her wishes ahead of mine, whatever they were, and she was capable of doing the same. Once you have that, you don't let go of it."
