The former Navy SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden said Tuesday it is important that President Donald Trump visit the troops in overseas war zones as soon as he can.

"If I was an adviser to President Trump, I would say we need to get to a war zone," Robert O'Neill told CNN on Tuesday night. "Make sure morale is at a high level."

A report this week cited a White House official as saying Trump's reason for not traveling to a war zone to this point in his presidency is rooted in fears for his safety. O'Neill said the president has nothing to worry about on that front.

"About your safety, that's the job of the Secret Service doing an outstanding job protecting you," he said. "No commander of any battle space will let any president hurt on their watch. The security will be there."
