A video showing drug users openly using needles in the hallways in one of the busiest public transport stations in San Francisco has sparked outrage in the Bay Area, CBS News reports.
Commuters told CBS San Francisco that the sight of drug addicts slumped in the corridors of the Bay Area Rapid Transit or BART system.
"One morning I said, 'I got to pull out the camera and show my friends this. They’re not going to believe it,'" regular commuter Shannon Gafford said, adding that he documented his trips over the course of one week. "Every day. Every morning. 5:30 to 6 o’clock. You can see there’s dozens of them. Needles everywhere. Crack. Heroin."
Gafford continued, saying, "You feel bad for these people in a way. I mean, because you are human, you see them. This isn’t going anywhere. It’s getting worse."
"The situation in our BART stations is simply unacceptable," San Francisco Mayor Mark Farrell said. "Borders on disastrous."
