Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh Friday demanded to know why it should be considered a controversy to know about people living in the United States who are not citizens, after President Donald Trump's announcement that he will use means other than the census to determine the matter.
"I think everybody is looking at this in the wrong way," Limbaugh told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "The real controversy here is who took the citizenship question out of the census and why? Why is the controversy wanting to know who among us happens to be a citizen and who isn't?"
Limbaugh pointed out that the question was on the census for years, "when somebody in the (Barack) Obama regime decided to get rid of it."
That is because Democrats want non-citizens to be invisible, he added.
Trump lauded Limbaugh for his appearance on the program, both promoting his guest spot on Twitter and after saying he'd done a "great job."
Meanwhile, Limbaugh accused Democrats of wanting open borders for multiple reasons, including creating a permanent class of people who need assistance.
"The Democrat Party is a party that the worst that can happen to it is for people to become self-reliant, for people to be able to produce for themselves," said Limbaugh. "They need people constantly in need, they need to create as many victims as they can, people hopeless thinking the game is rigged."
Limbaugh also commented on the growing divisions in the Democratic Party, saying that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other far-left lawmakers are the new "young Turks in the party" wanting to have some say-so.
"There is nothing new going on here except Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calling (Nancy) Pelosi a racist pig, essentially, which is humorous and funny because you don't normally see Democrats make that allegation about each other," said Limbaugh.
