Report: Romney Tape Leaker Has Big IRS Bill

By    |   Thursday, 14 March 2013 03:17 PM EDT

The Florida bartender who damaged Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign by taping and leaking his notorious “47 percent’’ speech owes the IRS thousands of dollars in back taxes, according to a report.

Scott Prouty has been hit with a tax lien of $15,396.42 for unpaid income taxes in 2006, records uncovered by journalist Jose Lambiet’s GossipExtra.com reveal.

Prouty, who lives in Hollywood, Fla., secretly filmed Romney during a private fundraiser in Boca Raton in which the former Massachusetts governor blasted 47 percent of Americans as freeloaders.

He then leaked it to the press, providing the Obama campaign with ample fodder to claim that Romney only cared about rich people.

Prouty, who revealed his identity on MSNBC on Wednesday night, has yet to settle the 7-year-old debt, according to Broward County archives posted on the gossip website.
